How would you describe this look?
She previously had bleached hair from previous color services with about 8-10 cm of new growth. She’s naturally very light blonde, so to avoid bleaching we changed the silver to a dark charcoal with a Keune semi-permanent dye.
The pink is Blush from Pulp Riot. I would describe this look as a charcoal fading into a caramel pink ombre. For styling we just did a nice round brush with some loose curling iron waves. What I love most about this look is its grown-up grunge vibe. It gives a daring edge to pretty pink!
Any advice for someone considering it?
These unnatural colors require more maintenance. You need to understand that keeping these tones vibrant and keeping hair healthy will require more work on your part. Vivid tones almost always need lightening services, and depending on how many levels your stylist needs to lift, hair can suffer from bleaching. That’s why it’s important to have moisturizing, repairing, and color-safe shampoo and conditioner.
At my salon we also sell treatments that keep hair healthy every week (Olaplex step 3 repair conditioner or B3). I suggest my clients do one of these treatments once a week and leave it on overnight.
With vivid colors it’s also very important not to wash or rinse hair with hot water. I try to explain to my clients that hair cuticles, which hold color, open and close similarly to skin pores. When you shower with hot water, pores or hair cuticles open. Cooler water keeps the cuticle closed and retaining color.
All vivid colors fade over time. The lighter they are, the less they last. Salon tone refreshes for these colors can range between 2 and 6 weeks to keep the color vibrant.

How would you describe this look?
This pink ombre shade is a real showstopper. A fusion from the most intense pink to a silver platinum with no transition color is one of my favorite color effects. If done right, it makes the eye wonder: “is it balayage? highlights? ombre?”
The real answer is lightening and toning with a root smudge. Not in the traditional way of a quick tone service, but taking it to a new level and pushing the limits of the “norm” with a natural shadow at the crown: we decided to push the intense pink to the other end of the spectrum!
Any advice for someone considering it?
This particular color is not for shy people. First we had to take this client to a flawless platinum blonde, which for some people can take up to a year depending on their starting color, color history, and hair integrity. From there, we toned all remaining warmth with a silver/violet platinum. The last step is to dry and then blend the pink color from the root.
Maintenance and at-home care are high. As your blonde rises to the lightest blonde, a weekly treatment is recommended to repair and preserve end integrity.
And watch out for the pink! How do you maintain pink? For this fashion color a direct dye is used. This color molecule sits mainly inside the cuticle. What this means is that staying away from heat will benefit you. When washing, use cold water (with a professional color-safe shampoo or cleansing conditioner) and avoid heat tools. Of course, for most of us that’s not realistic: minimal heat use would be my recommendation, always with good heat protection. My favorite is Redken Diamond Oil dry oil!
Fashion colors fade easily and lightening and toning grow out fast. Your salon visit should be every 4 weeks, and no more than every 6, for maintenance.
The cut complements this style and adds movement, body, and shine to the final result. The base cut should be done before color, because color is molded around the cut. This prevents the pink from falling undesirably and the blended cut from looking “torn.” For this reason, I do the cut before many of my highlight services.

How would you describe this look?
We added depth at the root with a double-balanced level 4 ash and refreshed her balayage with lightener and 20 volume developer. Then we toned her mids and ends with a poppy pink. I added yellow to her pink formula to get a brightening touch. We softened her layers and curled with the flat iron in opposite directions to give a lived-in hair feel. I finished with a texturizing spray for volume and an oil to add shine and define her ends.
Any advice for someone considering it?
Rooted balayage is a great low-maintenance option for the discreet client. I love this look because at first it makes an impact, but the fade is just as fun! But if you want to keep the pink vibrant, I recommend scheduling a tone and treatment maintenance with your stylist every 3 weeks.
This style is about enhancing natural texture and adding a little drama so my client feels like her boldest version, whether she spends 5 or more than 45 minutes on her hair.

How would you describe this look?
It was a super fun project for me. I told her I wanted to give her a hair color that would turn heads and make people stop to comment “Oh my God, I love your hair!” It was her first time experimenting with vivid colors and she was quite nervous. I took her beautiful previously lightened blonde hair and transformed it with a mix of cool-toned violets and pinks.
I used a mix of different Pulp Riot colors from their Raven collection to give dimension and depth to her vivid color. I used a flat iron to comb through her curls, which isn’t my usual option for curling, but I love the soft wave I created with it. What I loved most about her look was the instant confidence boost my client had when she saw her new color. Her attitude and sass came out, and I think the after photos I took of her really show it.
Any advice for someone considering it?
Any client considering this pink ombre color should first know that the lifespan of lighter vivid colors isn’t long. You can spend over 3 hours in the salon for a color that fades in 4 washes. That’s the nature of vivid colors: the lighter the color, the shorter its lifespan. What I always recommend to my clients with vivid colors is a color-depositing shampoo to use at home. These shampoos are a quick and easy way to keep color fresh between touch-ups.
Although having unicorn hair is a dream come true, many people don’t realize that getting there can be a journey. For example, if you have long hair full of box black dye and want to have pastel pink hair in one day without losing length, it’s not realistic.

How would you describe this look?
This look is a modernized pink ombre in its tones. It still has the classic ombre feel, but it smudges more around the face frame. Any type of creative color requires more maintenance than natural hair color. For washing you need a sulfate-free shampoo and color-safe conditioner. Wash your hair every 3-7 days. The less you wash, the longer the color will last. Dry shampoo will be your new best friend. This type of color is best for someone who can go a few days without washing their hair. This color can be worn by any hair texture, as long as the canvas has been previously lightened to a nice buttery blonde.

How would you describe this look?
I did a red to pink ombre color, where I used a darker red base that blends into a light pink at the ends. I used ID dye for the red base, lightened the mids and ends to level 9, and used Pulp Riot pink at the ends. What I love most about this color is how vivid and fun it is!
Any advice for someone considering it?
This color definitely has some versatility. It’s not your typical red or natural color, but it’s not too over-the-top either. My client works with cars for a living, so she let her personality shine through with pink hair! She says she didn’t stop getting compliments until it was time for her touch-up.
